Shell Petroleum has standardised on TurboCASH Acccounting for its franchise service stations. This will include a roll-out to over 400 stations.
John Stevens, Franchise Development Manager for Shell, says: "The service station industry requires very strict financial controls to maintain profitability. Margins are very small despite high cash sale volumes. It takes a great deal of discipline to manage working capital requirements and cashflow in this business. If managed correctly, however, this is a very profitable business.
"We evaluated and considered a number of accounting systems and felt that TurboCASH best fits our needs. It gives us a simple accounting solution for use by non-specialists at service stations and yet gives us the sophisticated reporting that we need to get the information that we need to run and advise the businesses."
TurboCASH will be used to run the back office of each station. Data will be taken from the forecourt system and retail POS and fed to TurboCASH. TurboCASH will handle elements like bank recon, debtors statements and VAT returns.
Philip Copeman, Managing Director of Pink Software, says: "It`s great to get a large customer like Shell. We have always believed that TurboCASH combines ease of use and still does the job. We will be customising TurboCASH using our plug-in technology, to allow Shell to consolidate data. They have a clear idea of what makes a successful service station, we want to give them the ability to model their franchises and to pick up early signals if things are not running according to plan."
TurboCASH accounting recently underwent a new release that includes full translation to Afrikaans, increased help facilities and a new Windows XP style interface. Its batch-driven interface also allows data to be remotely collected and processed at another point. TurboCASH uses the Internet to transfer data between users.
