Shoden partners with EMC on Data Domain

EMC announces new reseller Shoden Data Systems in South Africa.

Johannesburg, 01 Oct 2010

Following EMC Corporation's acquisition of Data Domain, EMC Southern Africa will partner with Shoden Data Systems, the local Data Domain representative.

EMC, the world leader in information infrastructure, has announced that reseller Shoden Data Systems has been appointed as an EMC partner in southern Africa for its expertise in backup, recovery and archive solutions.

Shoden Data Systems has a proven expertise in the sales, implementation and support of next-generation disk-based backup, recovery and archive solutions, and was a natural choice for this partnership. Shoden will provide new sales opportunities through its reach to a broader footprint, helping both parties to maximize profit. Shoden was also chosen for its specialist skills and its solid reputation across the reseller community.

The announcement follows EMC Corporation's acquisition of Data Domain, which will become the foundation of a new product division within EMC's storage business focused on the development and delivery of next-generation disk-based backup, recovery and archive solutions.

“EMC has worked with many of the Shoden Data Systems professionals for a number of years. During this time, we have developed a strong relationship and as such are pleased to announce working with Shoden,” said Vic Booysen, Indirect Sales and Partner Manager at EMC Southern Africa. “In a time when customer satisfaction is vital, the appointment of Shoden is a key part of our strategy to target the mid-market more closely, and keep focus on the enterprise market.

“Data Domain is a key technology in our portfolio, enabling us to deliver holistic solutions in the next-generation backup and recovery market,” said Mark Slade, Business Development Director of Shoden.

“EMC is a successful data management company, and with the purchase of Data Domain will be an ideal fit with Shoden's strategy of high-quality products. The partnership also cements our position as the primary channel for Data Domain products in South Africa as well as the South East Central Africa region.” In South Africa, Data Domain has been represented by Shoden Data Systems for five years, with an installed base in the financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing and retail industries.

“EMC and Data Domain's highly complementary technologies will continue to deliver tremendous savings and value to customers while promising entirely new and exciting prospects for integrated solutions in the future,” Booysen said.
