Systems Integration (SI), one of South Africa's leading storage solutions providers, announces the immediate availability of Exabyte's Mammoth-2 (M2) in South Africa. Systems Integration has been a local distributor for Exabyte's products since 1989.
Jack Ward, managing director of Systems Integration, comments on M2, "Customers need a 7x24 operation, rapid data access and leading-edge capacity. M2 provides customers with significant improvements in their current backup and archiving environments."
M2 tape drive is the fastest and highest-performance compact tape drive in the midrange market. It delivers twice the performance and 50 percent greater capacity than current competitive products. With a transfer rate of 12 MB/second and its 60 GB of capacity per cartridge, M2 can back up 43 GB in less than half an hour (all specifications uncompressed), making it the premier tape drive in its class, at an extremely competitive price.
As the first self-cleaning tape drive, M2 introduces SmartClean AME (Advanced Metal Evaporated) data cartridges with built-in cleaning tape, dramatically reducing tape failures caused by lack of preventative maintenance. M2 automatically cleans itself without any prompting from an operator, resulting in reduced system down time, increased head life and unmatched reliability.
Ward continues, "Increasing volumes of data from new applications, such as the Internet and data warehousing, threaten to overwhelm users. As a result, timely and reliable access to this data is critical."
Built upon the foundation of Exabyte's superior MammothTape technology, M2 drive advancements are evolutionary, not revolutionary. While M2 features a number of technological improvements, the utilisation of the MammothTape technology's scanner design, which is larger than other helical scan technologies such as AIT and DDS, is the most significant.
"With Exabyte's strong product roadmap, investment protection for current users, and early product availability, M2 is well positioned in the network storage market to capitalise on these evolving storage opportunities," concludes Ward.
Systems Integration is an industry-leading storage integrator with a focus on high availability and mission-critical solutions in the open systems, network environment. The company is uniquely positioned in the South African market to provide consulting, implementation and support of high availability, continuous processing storage architectures in the open systems enterprise environment.
