Siemens Mobile Acceleration and Sun Microsystems have launched a joint developer start-up initiative to support young companies with investments, management, sales and technology.
The goal of this programme is to support start-ups in creating wireless products and to accelerate their market entry. Developers and young companies with new ideas for mobile applications, Java-based platforms and mobile computing now stand to profit from both companies' complementary know-how.
The two partners base their start-up initiative on services that complement each other perfectly from the onset of a new business idea. While Sun contributes the mobile communication platform J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition), Siemens Mobile Acceleration GmbH provides these new companies with investments, start-up services and access to Siemens Information and Communication Mobile R&D departments and sales channels worldwide. The programme is aimed at new businesses with a focus on mobile applications and new technologies for wireless communications.
One particularly attractive opportunity for young companies is their inclusion in the product portfolios of the two industrial partners. Young entrepreneurs benefit not only from Sun's extensive technological expertise in the Java field, but also from Siemens Mobile Acceleration's profound management knowledge. The programme focuses on the financing of the pre-market-entry phase as well as on operational topics like strategy, financial statements, legal requirements, organisation, and many more.
"We want to help young developers to take advantage of the strengths of the J2ME technology," explains Dr Helmut Wilke, Managing Director of Sun Microsystems GmbH. "The initiative of these two strong partners is a major benefit for all emerging companies in this technology segment."
Dietrich Ulmer, CEO and President of Siemens Mobile Acceleration GmbH, adds: "Network operators and handset manufacturers are increasingly focusing on Java-capable telephones. Accordingly, developers and content providers are therefore focusing their interests in this Java technology. With Sun Microsystems as a technology partner, we are able to serve this target group even better."
