Siemens releases SIP-based products, solutions

Demonstrating the consistent alignment of its portfolio to the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Siemens Communications has presented new platforms, devices and solutions based on this open protocol.

With these new products, customers can implement an end-to-end, convergent communications landscape in which sophisticated SIP-based applications and communications features - including those from third-party providers - can be used without any problem.

In recent years, the SIP transfer protocol has increasingly become the generally accepted basis for IP communications solutions for private customers as well as for corporate networks and network providers. The use of this standard lays the foundation for the convergence of the different telecommunications networks and devices as well as solutions and products from different manufacturers.

As Siemens had already opted for SIP at an early stage with its HiPath range of products for corporate customers and developed an extensive portfolio of products and solutions based on this protocol, the variety of new SIP-based innovations are in addition to its products already on the market.

Siemens now offers a broad range of SIP devices, including new SIP clients - the optiPoint 410 and optiPoint420 product families, as well as the previously launched 'soft phone' optiClient 130 S with video-conferencing function and the new WLAN phone optiPoint WS2 professional, which will also be available in a SIP version. From this range of products users can select precisely the device their situation demands in order to utilise sophisticated SIP-based IP features and applications.

Other SIP portfolio highlights are the new versions of the real-time IP systems HiPath 4000 and HiPath 3000, which also now operate with the SIP protocol. This means, for instance, that the HiPath 4000 can be used as a powerful gateway for the dedicated SIP model HiPath 8000, the forerunner in the HiPath family. This enables large, conventional communications systems to be integrated into the overall architecture of very complex, branched corporate networks and, if necessary, be gradually migrated into modern SIP-based communication-over-IP environments. Even the HiPath 3000 - the successful model for small and midsize corporate networks - as an SIP-capable version, opens up new possibilities for making IP convergence even more efficient and flexible.

These innovations give Siemens Communications a diverse range of solutions that provides its customers with all the options of a SIP-based communications network, irrespective of the size. Companies can use all devices that work with SIP and hence put the demand for standard-based, convergent networks into practice. As required, desktop telephones or 'soft phones' installed on notebooks or PCs can be used for communication, and WLAN phones for mobile communication over data networks.

With its consistent strategy in introducing innovative SIP-based products and solutions, Siemens Communications has established itself as one of the pioneers in the SIP arena. In recognition of this, Frost & Sullivan recently presented the company with the "Technology Leadership Award 2005".
