Siemens showcases ultrasound imaging

At the 20th annual scientific sessions of the American Society of Echocardiography, Siemens Healthcare will demonstrate a new gold standard in echocardiography: non-stitched, real-time full-volume 3D images of the heart acquired in one single heart cycle with the Acuson SC2000 volume imaging ultrasound system, states DotMed.

The latest release of the system features technologies and applications that improve diagnostic confidence and workflow in echocardiography.

The company will also showcase a volume 3D intra-cardiac echocardiography catheter, the Acuson AcuNav V ultrasound catheter, which delivers real-time volumetric information from inside the heart.

Bluetooth sets healthcare mobile standard

The non-profit, open-industry coalition for technology healthcare, Continua Health Alliance, says Bluetooth technology will be adopted as a healthcare device standard in version two of its guidelines for low-energy communication, says Silicon Republic.

Bluetooth is currently the only wireless technology specification included by Continua, and was chosen after a 10-month review process.

“Continua's choice of Bluetooth low-energy technology - a specification in development at this time and expected to be adopted by the end of the year - underscores the excitement and need for this Bluetooth wireless standard in the telehealth arena,” said Michael Foley, executive director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

ictQatar develops e-healthcare system

The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) is working closely with major players in the health sector to synchronise e-health systems in Qatar to support to government's continuing drive for healthcare reform, reports The Peninsula.

“The ultimate benefit achieved from a national e-health strategy is a safer and more sustainable health system that is equipped to better respond to the emerging health sector's pressures and demands,” said Dr Yasir Khan, ictQatar's clinical for the e-health programme.

Khan underscored this before participants of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Middle East conference in Bahrain recently during his keynote address.
