Siemens unveils manufacturing solution
Siemens Business Services is presenting its solutions aimed at the manufacturing industry, as well as financial service providers and the public sector at German computer expo CeBIT 2006 from 9 to 15 March.
Siemens will "show how integrated manufacturing execution systems and enterprise resource planning systems help companies make better decisions by providing current and production-relevant data," PressZoom reports.
"Service Concepts of the Future", a solution package for the machine tool and systems industries aimed at improving profitability and efficiency, will be unveiled.
Technology vital to manufacturing competitiveness
The Engineer-to-Order (ETO) Institute points out that, to stay competitive, domestic engineer-to-order and project-based manufacturers must turn to technology, reports SB Wire.
Engineer-to-order manufacturers face intense pressures to reduce costs and shorten cycle times, while maintaining high quality, notes the article, adding that such manufacturers must realise that their special business challenges cannot be resolved by traditional, repetitive-manufacturing solutions.
"The institute recommends manufacturers investigate three levels of technology to help achieve their business goals," spokesperson for the ETO Institute, Thomas Cutler, says. These are point solutions (such as CAD systems); integrated solutions allowing data to flow throughout the organisation and give management the timely information it needs; and an optimised solution encompassing a program of continuous improvement.
$1.3bn requested by Indian semiconductor manufacturing sector
The Indian Union Government has sought a $1.3 billion fund from government to kick-start the semiconductor manufacturing industry, The Hindu Online reports.
"The government knows its responsibilities. We will do our part to encourage manufacturing," says union minister of communication and information technology, Dayanidhi Maran.
Having scored well in business process outsourcing, IT-enabled services and chip design sectors, time is now ripe for India to move into semiconductor manufacturing to cater to the growth in the industry, which is expected to reach $ 36.3 billion by 2015, he adds.
