Singapore considers healthcare

An initiative to evaluate the cost and benefits of IT in was revealed at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Asia Pacific show, says The Star Online.

Called the Alliance for Clinical Excellence (Ace), the first movers of this global, non-profit initiative include the Hong Kong Society of Medical Informatics, Singapore's Ministry Of Health Holdings and the National University of Singapore's School of Computing.

The first IT healthcare solutions providers involved in Ace are Orion Health (from the US), iSoft and Chik Services (both from Australia) and US enterprise solutions giant Oracle Corp. The Ace secretariat is based in Singapore.

Conference shapes the future

Healthcare Computing 2009 will feature presentations on all the major programmes of work planned and delivered for the NHS by NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH), reports BJHC.

This year, the annual conference and exhibition organised by the British Computer Society (BCS) has the theme 'Shaping the Future'. It will be held in Harrogate about a month later than previous years, from 28-30 April.

The conference will include the latest developments in and strategy, telecare and interactive care, transformation of services, leadership and professionalism, supporting healthy living, and emerging technologies.

Portable computing aids doctors

Motion Computing has released its Motion J3400 tablet PC for field professionals in healthcare, states Fresh News.

The tablet PC can work as the robust device for indoors, at the same time it's needed for outdoors.

The portable computing device comes with Intel Core 2 Duo processor technology, Motion QuickNav and the latest in mobile technology.
