IT training group Skillspro has placed 24% of its shares in the hands of empowerment partners.

The group has also consolidated the shareholding of subsidiary companies, which include Futureteacher and Vukanikids. The new structure means 36% of board directors are empowerment partners.

The group has allocated a further 15% of its shares for empowerment and is negotiating with a number of black economic empowerment (BEE) groups.

Skillspro chairman Abrie du Preez says the new empowerment structure ensures the empowerment of its partners and the expansion of the group.

"With regard to the 15% shares allocated for empowerment, we are currently negotiating with various BEE companies and we will at a later stage reveal names," he says.

Du Preez says that with a new shareholding structure, the group aims to develop the best approach to improving IT training and education in SA, and to bring new ideas into the group.

"While the foundations have been laid over the past decade, the business really starts now with a new shareholding structure that reflects broad-based empowerment and injects new enthusiasm and perspective into the organisation," says Du Preez.

"Some of our partners have been associated with the group for some time, and they bring fresh ideas, as well as extensive experience in the management, education and training fields respectively."

The new group empowerment partners include Azwiambwi Tshitangano, who has been appointed executive director for business development of sales; Thandeka Olive Ngcobo, executive director for transformation and business development; and Zongile Mildred Gumede and Naphtali Maolpe, who have been named non-executive directors.

"Victor Schultze, who has headed Futurekids and was instrumental in forging strategic alliances with various universities, the teachers' union and other stakeholders in the education industry, has been appointed group CEO," says Du Preez.

Skillspro owns 100% of Futurekids SA and 50% of Futurekids Mauritius and is involved in integrated technology curricula for schools, and the implementation of learnership and educator training development.
