The poor quality of South Africa`s telecommunications infrastructure increases the need for technology solutions that intelligently diagnose the business impact of faults and potential outages.
"To maximise the availability and performance of the e-business infrastructure, businesses require an end-to-end snapshot that helps operations detect and resolve these faults, potential outages and delays before they impact critical services," says Jannie van Zyl, Executive: Managed Solutions, Dimension Data Network Services.
"E-businesses and service providers need to be able to detect, isolate and resolve problems across networks, systems and applications, as well as send alerts to operations staff," he says.
"Today`s e-business economy demands maximum performance and 24x7 uptime from a company`s infrastructure," adds Van Zyl. "Real-time solutions, by themselves, identify outages - not the emerging problems that slowly and consistently degrade quality of service."
The faults, persistent problems, and unusual behavior in the e-business delivery system that typically lead to downtime or poor service quality must be identified.
"By automatically correlating these issues with the business structure, operations can quickly see which customers or departments are at risk to receive poor service."
Through combining real-time information with historical context and filtering, the operations team can be armed with the most accurate and intelligent view of the e-business delivery system.
Today the sheer number of alarms sent to operations can be a problem in itself. "What`s needed is an intelligent approach to alarms, reducing management noise by identifying only persistent problems and eliminating duplicate alarms. Companies need to be able to distinguish between one-time spikes in activity and serious problems that exist over time," says Van Zyl.
"E-businesses must be able to prioritise e-business management and maximise the productivity of human resources. Realising this, Dimension Data offers services that intelligently and comprehensively do this within the e-business infrastructure," he concludes.
