Smart Card Alliance recommends best practices
The Smart Card Alliance identity council has released guidance regarding best practices for organisations implementing radio frequency (RF) technology in identity management systems.
In "Best practices for the use of RF-enabled technology in identity management", the alliance provides recommended guidelines for issuers of ID credentials, using RF technology to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and validity of identity information and to protect the credential holder's privacy.
The publication and accompanying FAQ document also address common misunderstandings about the use of RF technology to transmit identity information, which have led to questions about the security and privacy of RF-enabled ID credentials.

The USB devices will not require any specialised software and will work with standard browsers, using the same transport-layer security mechanisms already used by Web sites, says the report.

Giesecke & Devrient has introduced its next generation of contactless payment cards for US bank card issuers, according to Businesswire.com.
The company says its StarCL v2 contactless payment cards deliver enhanced performance and reliability, integrated in a card platform that offers the potential for achieving mass-scale deployment.
The product line for the US market provides bank card issuers with a payment card platform that has major payment-brand contactless applications loaded onto the card. The selection (for example MasterCard PayPass, Visa Contactless) is performed during the card pre-personalisation or initialisation process.
