SmartForce has introduced a new module for its e-Learning (MySmartForce) platform that allows mobile users to learn "on the move".
The module, SmartForce Mobile, enables learners to download learning objects to their laptop computers while they are connected to the Internet. The learner can then access these objects at any time, even when they are no longer connected.
The next time the learner connects to the Internet, their activity and progress is automatically transferred back to - and recorded in - the online environment.
"This new development allows SmartForce to deploy e-Learning to a customer`s mobile workforce in a much more usable and effective manner," says Milton Goldschmidt, MD of SmartForce Africa.
"By bringing powerful new capabilities to enterprises with mobile employees, we are demonstrating our commitment to deliver e-Learning solutions that accommodate the practical needs of global enterprises," he says.
Among the benefits SmartForce Mobile brings to enterprises are:
. Flexibility while on the move: Once learning objects are downloaded, learners can study at a convenient time and location that best suits their needs. An Internet connection is not required.
. Flexibility at home: If learners cannot connect to the Internet from home, they can download learning objects to their laptops at work and bring them home for later use.
. Freedom from Internet connection: If learners have a poor or unreliable Internet connection, they can download all their learning objects for use offline. In addition, in the event of a broken connection, the intelligent recovery feature within SmartForce Mobile allows users to continue downloading from the point reached when the connection was lost.
. Access to the latest e-Learning objects: SmartForce Mobile makes it possible to launch a rich variety of learning objects, requiring only that the content comply with industry standards such as AICC, SCORM and LRN.
From a technical perspective, SmartForce Mobile is an integrated module within SmartForce`s e3 object-based e-Learning application architecture. The e3 platform is a complete, integrated architecture that includes all of the critical elements to support a wide range of e-Learning initiatives in global enterprises.
Key elements of the e3 platform include an LMS, a content management system, personalisation and customisation managers, and a variety of tools. e3 also supports the largest body of generic e-Learning content in the world. The e3 platform is entirely object-based, allowing it to support enterprise e-Learning strategies targeted precisely to the customer`s particular business requirements.
