Following its recent worldwide roll-out, ADIC's StorNext Management Suite, the first storage management software to seamlessly merge disk and tape into an integrated storage system, is already available in SA through fully accredited local ADIC EVAR, Smart Storage Technologies (SmartStor). The solution provides comprehensive access, management and protection of data in SANs.
The StorNext Management Suite's end-to-end management tools provide users with the ability to manage data intelligently over time, providing streamlined workflow, reduced management overheads, increased resource utilisation and improved long-term data integrity.
The highly scalable solution combines fibre disk arrays and storage networking tape libraries into a single storage system. StorNext storage systems appear to applications as simple disk-volumes, but they can support millions of files, hold virtually unlimited amounts of data and give users high-speed shared file access.
It is an open systems solution that allows users to manage data sets with changing access requirements from a single, unified interface.
"Users need StorNext Management Suite and its Total Data Life Management because different data sets have different quality-of-service needs," says Tony Life, executive director at SmartStor. "StorNext lets users set their requirements using file size, use, age, and other factors and then actively controls data placement to meet them. Since part of those requirements includes the number and location of replicated data sets, automated data protection is also built directly into the management system.
"The StorNext Management Suite is the first product that truly presents a large, multi-tiered storage system as a single entity to all applications," he continues. "It was something that ADIC could do because of their particular combination of expertise in SAN connectivity, file systems, storage management software and hardware systems.
"The StorNext solution is a welcome addition to our existing family of ADIC Enterprise Technology, which includes SA's only demo Scalar 10K housed in our SAN lab," says Life.
"ADIC now not only competes very effectively against traditional tape solutions, which many South Africans, as they move to a more open systems environment, are now finding inflexible and expensive; it also assists us at SmartStor to provide all data users with the most cost-effective combination of disk and tape to keep data available as each business requires," he explains.
