Smartworld intros next-gen ICT services

Smartworld, a provider of ICT-based services in the Middle East, has released an array of integrated products and services under its Smart ICT Service portfolio, states AMEInfo.

The new solutions offer capabilities in the areas of managed communication services and managed enterprise services that help organisations streamline processes, reduce operational costs, and drive informed decision-making.

With the new offerings, Smartworld is set to leverage its expertise in the growing managed services market in the UAE, which is estimated to be $252 million according to market research firm IDC.

Bell Labs designs smart grid

Alcatel-Lucent, a provider of end-to-end solutions for communications services, revealed that its research arm, Bell Labs, has signed a joint research agreement with Korea-based Gachon Energy Research Institute, of Kyungwon University, says TMCnet.

The deal will see Dell Labs design mission-critical communication infrastructure, comprehensive systems, as well as develop innovative businesses models for the next-generation smart power grid.

More power utilities are seeking to implement smart grids, which will provide improved visibility and control through investment in the management of ICT and managing energy flow within the networks.

Pressure hits IT managers hardest

The IDC has released a survey claiming that IT managers have the biggest pressure to achieve business efficiency and sustainability, reports Computerworld.

Speaking at IDC's ICT Efficiency and Sustainability Conference in London, Chris Ingle, IDC research director, said IT managers need to focus on improving workflow, make centres more modular, improve data and asset management as well as changing client device strategies.

He said: “Traditional views on sustainability had been focused on hardware recycling and use, the impact of services, and data de-duplication and power management. There are opportunities for further efficiency with more extensive use of IT across the enterprise."
