To address market requirements for high-performance and affordable backup solutions in the small PC server and workstation arenas, SCSI Technology has released the SeagateTapeStor Travan 10-20 kit.

"The Travan bundle is especially suited to resellers who market workstations and servers and need provide a cost-effective tape backup drive with a SCSI interface and a high degree of reliability," says Jessy Naicker, MD of SCSI Technology. The kit includes a Hornet 20GB SCSI drive, media and Seagate Backup Exec software for Windows 95/98 and NT Workstation. The tape system stores up to 20GB of compressed data per cartridge and offers backward read compatibility with Travan 8 and Travan 8 NS cartridges, assuming tapes were formatted with the same software. Seagate produces a number of backup devices on a variety of interfaces including the 8 and 20GB SCSI and ATAPI drives and 8 and 24GB DAT drives, as well as AIT drives for midrange servers. They also provide software and media bundles in their TapeStorTravan and TapeStor DAT bundles.

"The new TapeStor Travan 20 GB SCSI drives complement Seagate`s existing lines by providing SCSI performance at a TapeStor value, providing suitable backup solutions for high-performance desktop PCs, NT workstations and small PC servers," says Naicker. Seagate will continue to offer its 20 GB SCSI Travan Network Series (NS) drives which offer enhanced features like hardware data compression and read-while-write data verification for servers, as well as its 20 GB ATAPI interface drives for workstations.
