SMEs get deduplication

Tech Target reports.

GreenBytes claims Solidarity's effective capacity can run from 15TB to 60TB with deduplication and compression. The system is aimed at small enterprises that are heavily virtualised.

Solidarity is designed to help enable the SME market to meet all primary and transactional storage missions, including virtual infrastructure and databases with a single tier, all-solid-state platform, eWeek states.

The platform offers large virtual storage pools for single-tier storage, eliminating traditional tiering and the need for tiering software processes and heuristics.

“Innovations are typically first adopted by larger businesses and slowly trickle down to smaller companies as they become more affordable and user-friendly,” IT Pro quotes Simon Robinson, research director at The 451 Group, as saying.

“But, [its move to the SME market] also speaks to the fact that smaller organisations are dealing with the same data growth challenges as larger businesses, and have even fewer skills and resources to deal with it, especially as they are looking to get to grips with server and desktop virtualisation - which can create large amounts of duplicate data.”
