Smithsonian acquires prototypes

The Smithsonian`s National Museum of American History joined with inventor Daniel Henderson to acquire two prototypes and related documentation for a pioneering picturephone technology, developed in 1993, states HULIQ.

The invention, known as "Intellect", was designed to receive pictures and video from a message centre, for display on a portable device.

It also anticipated spam filtering for wireless devices and the convergence of wireless communications and portable computing devices, which allowed users to see, hear and access information while moving in a mobile world.

adopts convergence

To meet convergence demands within the healthcare environment, Ascom Wireless Solutions has introduced teleCARE IP, a new generation nurse call system fully based on IP technology, reports Earthtimes.

The system has all the traditional benefits, such as normal patient calls, assistance calls, emergency alarms and nurse presence. In addition, it has the smart integration of technical alarms, from doorbell to telephone, heating and elevator alarms.

The system is easily adapted to different organisational needs and there is no need to install a new network; teleCARE IP runs on the existing LAN.

Batelco moves to Bahrain

Batelco`s implementation of next-generation-network in Bahrain will make it pioneers in cutting-edge technology globally, reports Gulf Daily News.

The company said its close ties to the Bahraini government will aid it in creating a nationwide infrastructure that will deliver a converged network unlike any other in the region.

"Our goal is to stay ahead of demand in terms of technology," Batelco networks and technology GM Ebrahim Abdulla Zainal told the GDN.
