SMS a 'wireless technology' for business

Johannesburg, 27 May 2004

"SMS technology in the enterprise environment is often ignored when CIOs talk of mobile and wireless technologies," says Barry Prinsloo, sales director at SMS Cellular Services, provider of the CellSys SMS technology.

Although enterprise SMS technology does not traditionally fall into the types of technologies that are associated with "wireless technology", SMS is a wireless communications mechanism. SMS is a point of departure from which other, more complex and costly technologies, can evolve from. If companies are looking at using "wireless technologies" to improve communications with staff, reps, customers etc, SMS is a serious business enabler.

SMS technology has moved beyond being a personal messaging tool and is now being embraced as an effective mission-critical mobile business communication tool. As the most cost-effective method of communicating with customers, employees, suppliers and business partners today, companies of all sizes, in all parts of the market are finding it impossible to ignore the benefits of using SMS technology to streamline their communications and business processes.

"Mobile phones are an integral part of our lives. We can count on the fact that a mobile phone is nearly always with the user, therefore information communicated via SMS easily reaches the recipient wherever they are, with the advantage of remaining in the phone's memory for future referral," says Prinsloo.

SMS Cellular Services' SMS solution, Cellsys, is an industry leader and partner of choice for an enviable list of blue chip companies, many government departments and financial institutions, the national airline carrier, national electricity provider and the only terrestrial telecoms operator in SA.

All these clients have recognised that enterprise capable SMS technology offers a high level of functionality, scalability, customisability and carrier class dependability. Cellsys allows these companies to integrate as much or as little SMS technology as they desire across their entire organisation. From the customer-facing call centre, to back-end automation of sales forces, monitoring back-end systems and initiating alerts to IT staff if problems arise.

With no requirement for capital outlay as well as taking into account the current industry-standard SMS charges and a nominal monthly service fee, there isn't a more cost-effective way of communicating with people anytime, anywhere, in existence today.
