Soarsoft Africa has announced the release of Metalogix's StoragePoint 3.0 - revolutionary SharePoint-based software that actively manages the entire storage life cycle of content while dramatically decreasing storage costs.
StoragePoint enables organisations to seamlessly move content to lower-cost tiers (ie, levels) of storage as it ages, becomes less relevant or inactive based on simple-to-configure rules.
Customers can utilise multiple tiers consisting of virtually any mix of NAS, SAN and or cloud storage platforms, leveraging the most appropriate storage based on their particular performance, compliance or budgetary requirements. Completely installed and configured within SharePoint Central Administration, StoragePoint also optimises SharePoint manageability, scalability, and security without sacrificing functionality, performance or the end-user experience.
Says Chris Hathaway, Director at local distributor Soarsoft Africa: “The sheer volume of information that needs to reside on SharePoint databases in organisations today, and the difficulties of managing large SharePoint databases, has led to a great demand for more intelligent storage solutions.
StoragePoint 3.0 improves on the previous version, by making it even easier for those in charge of information and storage management to manage content natively within SharePoint, and cost-effectively. Because StoragePoint allows for BLOBs (Binary Large Objects) to be offloaded from the SharePoint SQL database onto other storage platforms, it allows organisations to significantly decrease the size of the SharePoint database - sometime by as much as 90%.”
“The core, or guiding, principal of 3.0 was to dramatically improve SharePoint Storage Economics,” said Rob D'Oria, Metalogix Development CTO. “We see customers hesitating to migrate content from expensive, yet under-utilised, legacy ECM platforms into SharePoint because they are concerned about the cost of storing that content in often-expensive, primary tier-1 storage. StoragePoint 3.0 removes that barrier and gives SharePoint Admins, SQL DBAs, and Storage Architects unmatched flexibility and control over when, where, why, and how SharePoint content is stored and managed throughout its life cycle.”
D'Oria continues: “Combining StoragePoint 3.0 with our industry-leading suite of migration tools provides a customer with what they need to consolidate a wide array of content sources into SharePoint, where it will be managed efficiently and cost-effectively throughout its life cycle. It sounds good in theory but works even better in reality.”
Christine Taylor, an analyst from the Taneja Group (www.tanejagroup.com), comments: “StoragePoint makes the storage ROI of SharePoint extremely compelling. It sets an entirely new standard for SharePoint storage management, enabling clients to cost-effectively manage large volumes of content by leveraging a variety of storage platforms.”
Winner of Microsoft's SharePoint 2010 Innovation Award, StoragePoint software is 100% .NET and leverages only published Microsoft APIs (Application Program Interfaces). StoragePoint 3.0 is available now and clients may request a trial version at: http://www.storagepoint.com.
