The Social Media World Forum Africa, to be held in Cape Town this week, will project all tweets made with the conference hashtag, #smwf, on a wall for all delegates to see.
Unlike other projected Twitter streams of its kind, the TwitterWall uses a platform developed by user engagement tool creator UltraKnowledge that includes real-time statistics showing top tweets and tweeters, complete with their networks, connections, reach and influence.
“It's designed to help people at the show make informed decisions on who to connect with,” says the conference blog.
The wall is the product of a partnership between the conference organiser, SixDegrees, and Nokia. The statistics page can also be accessed from any computer and includes tools like a follower-suggestor that indicates which people might be of interest to specific delegates, based on their current networks.
The Social Media World Forum Africa is one of five similar events held annually in London, Cape Town, Singapore, Dubai and New York to unite social media professionals.
The event, which has been running since 2008, covers topics such as brand management, community building and management and B2B marketing.
Speakers this year hail from all areas of Web 2.0 and marketing engagement and include Quirk MD James McKay, Memeburn editor Michelle Atagana, Mxit head of international business development and marketing Juan Du Toit, and senior online brand manager for 24.com, Nadia Boucher.
ITWeb will cover this year's event live on Twitter and on the ITWeb site. The wall can be accessed here.
