Software AG, in partnership with Fujitsu, has become the first software vendor to introduce a centrally located, extended service-oriented architecture (SOA) registry and repository, CentraSite, specifically designed to manage and govern SOA environments while achieving control and transparency across all the IT resources, services, policies and processes related to SOA.
Integrating with any and all of Software AG's Suite products, CentraSite provides visibility and reporting of Web services and other SOA resources and their usage, thereby facilitating reuse, expediting implementation of IT changes and minimising business risk.
Based on open standards, CentraSite stores and manages application integration models, highly distributed SOA artefacts (including business process and information models) as well as Web service descriptions.
CentraSite also reports changes on these SOA items throughout their lifecycle in the enterprise. In doing so, the new product helps organisations better understand how their Web services are being used and how SOAs function.
Because it is pre-configured, CentraSite enables organisations to quickly and easily populate and maintain a complete catalogue of SOA IT resources. Additionally, CentraSite promotes the re-use, improves governance and maximises the value of IT systems for any kind of business.
Emma Murray at Software AG (South Africa) says: "There is a high level of consensus among industry analysts that a centrally located, automated SOA registry and repository is a prerequisite for deriving the full benefit of any SOA implementation. Organisations which take a manual approach to this objective run the risk of forfeiting the most compelling advantages of SOA, such as leverage, reuse and heightened business agility.
"With CentraSite, Software AG reduces complexity by helping to quickly find and locate services within an enterprise, and to manage and govern all the related SOA resources in one central location. Adding to this is the ability to incorporate centralised policies and oversight mechanisms, such as notifying subscribers whenever a specific service in CentraSite has changed," Murray adds.
When it is installed as part of Software AG Suite, CentraSite Enterprise Edition comes pre-configured with all information needed to directly interact with the Suite products, including Application Composer, Business Process Manager, Information Integrator, Service Orchestrator and Legacy Integrator.
Based upon its extensible data model, CentraSite also has the power to adapt to custom requirements beyond Suite. Thus organisations can include and register their custom-generated objects and services, to have them participate in SOAs in order to reap SOA benefits quickly.
Murray says: "CentraSite also provides high returns on investment and cost reductions, together with the investment protection which comes from leveraging Fujitsu's and Software AG's business process management and integration software offerings.
"In addition, CentraSite customers enjoy continuous product improvements guaranteed by the strategic partnership between Software AG and Fujitsu, who are committed to develop an open community of vendors, integrators, customers and third-party providers to promote and enhance CentraSite."
