Software AG's Composite Application Integrator allows WYSIWYG development of rich Internet applications

Johannesburg, 12 Oct 2005

Software AG has announced the worldwide availability of Composite Application Integrator (CAI), a powerful design and runtime environment allowing desktop applications to use new Web user interfaces developed by a WYSIWYG Studio that does not require HTML, JavaScript (AJAX) skills.

According to Software AG's South African sales director, Devon Dalbock, the key implication of CAI for users is that they will benefit from a low cost of ownership of traditional Web applications without the high costs of maintaining custom-coded rich Internet applications. CAI will also benefit any organisation that needs to display and deploy applications across multiple user interfaces, such as portals and desktops.

Simply put, he said, CAI effectively bridges the gap within a service-oriented architecture between IT assets and the end-user.

Dalbock explained: "Composite Application Integrator accelerates and simplifies the design and deployment of rich Internet applications by providing a developer-friendly and WYSIWYG Studio that does not require skills in HTML, JavaScript (AJAX).

"This means that the richness of desktop-like applications will be available within a Web browser without requiring developers to code complex JavaScript. Applications can be rapidly deployed on a broad range of Java run-time environments including all major application servers and accessed with browser or through a rich client (Java SWT client). The composite applications can also be integrated into existing portals, such as IBM WebSphere and SAP NetWeaver," he said.

CAI is based on technology acquired by Software AG from Casabac Technologies in August 2005. It is already being used by the Agricultural Industry Department of the State of Baden-W"urttemberg (Germany) for the modernisation of their administrative application system and for the implementation of online services for the agricultural industry. "CAI is allowing the department to create a state-of-the-art user interface and deploy it into the existing infrastructure with minimal effort," said Dalbock. Composite Application Integrator is currently available online for purchase or as a 30-day evaluation copy at http://www1.softwareag.com/Corporate/products/cai/default.asp.
