Sonic, iWay partner on intelligent adapters for enterprise market

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 2003

Sonic Software and iWay Software, an Information Builders company, have announced a partnership to provide intelligent, pre-packaged adapters for the SonicXQ enterprise service bus (ESB).

This partnership has been extended to southern Africa and will be managed by Progress Software South Africa and ICL SA, the local distributors for Sonic and iWay respectively.

With this reseller agreement, Sonic delivers the first ESB-enabled intelligent adapters to the enterprise market. Sonic customers can now achieve greater scalability and more cost-effective integration across highly distributed environments than with traditional, broker-centric integration suites.

Sonic`s integration suite is the only suite built on an ESB: a standards-based integration infrastructure for the extended enterprise. The availability of over 250 iWay Software adapters to the Sonic integration suite enables organisations to connect to virtually any packaged application, mainframe and legacy system, traditional database, and to external partners via standard B2B protocols.

These adapters plug seamlessly into the ESB, without requiring custom code or upgrades to existing applications. The combination of the SonicXQ ESB and iWay Software adapters allows global enterprises to integrate their disparate, proprietary applications and middleware, while supporting mainstream and emerging business standards, including a range of B2B formats, such as ANSI X12 and Edifact, and specific vertical industry protocols, such as FIX, Swift, HIPAA, and HL7.

"The addition of iWay adapters for SonicXQ provides scalable integration with virtually any existing enterprise system, and the predominant B2B formats and industry protocols," says Rick Parry, MD of Progress Software South Africa.

"SonicXQ provides a comprehensive integration suite, making it possible for organisations to bring packaged software systems, legacy applications, and industry-specific message types into a standards-based integration infrastructure capable of spanning a global enterprise."

"Sonic`s integration leadership helped define the enterprise service bus, and SonicXQ is an outstanding choice for any organisation seeking standards-based integration," says Johan Jurd, sales manager at ICL SA. "With the inclusion of iWay`s intelligent adapters, many non-standard systems will now fit more easily into their Web services and JCA-based strategies. Our customers will see the lower costs and faster deployment times critical to business success."

iWay Adapters for SonicXQ

More than 250 adapters for SonicXQ are available, including:

* Packaged application adapters for SonicXQ: Enable organisations to tap into APIs and data structures of popular business packages, including SAP, PeopleSoft, Siebel, and Oracle, so companies can make the business logic and data of their packaged applications available across the SonicXQ ESB.

* B2B Adapters for SonicXQ: Support transformation of non-XML formats, such as Swift, FIX, HIPAA, HL7, and EDI (X.12 and Edifact) to XML to be used in the SonicXQ ESB and then to any target system.

* Mainframe and legacy adapters for SonicXQ: Provide connectivity with mainframes and legacy business systems, proving access to information storehouses that would otherwise be under-used. The adapters provide access to relational, hierarchical, network, and OLAP databases, as well as file structures and enable mainframe connectivity.

* Data and technology adapters for SonicXQ: Support bidirectional integration between transaction systems, such as CICS and Tuxedo, and the SonicXQ ESB.
