Sony delays PS3 release

The November shipments of Sony`s PlayStation 3 (PS3) to the US and Japan will be cut in half, while other countries won`t get any until March 2007, reports The Times Online.

The setback, caused by problems in mass the PS3`s next-generation Blu-Ray DVD component, means the games machine will miss the crucial Christmas period in Europe, Russia, the Middle East and Australia.

The PS3 project has already been delayed once this year, allowing Microsoft`s rival Xbox 360 to steal a march in the $30 billion console market.

Sprint offers full-length movies on cellphone

US mobile operator Sprint is offering full-length pay-per-view movies to mobile phones, says iTWire.com.

The service is powered by mSpot, which is responsible for video production and ongoing operations of the service and which delivers Sprint`s current subscription-based movie service.

A movie can be seen in its entirety or can be divided into chapters and watched over time. Customers can play, pause and skip forward or backward to different chapters. They can also resume a movie at the point where it was last shut down.

LCDs that stay bright in sunlight

Samsung has developed a chip that will enable users to view the LCD screens of their mobile phone in vivid colour in bright sunlight, says Chosunilbo.

The intelligent mobile Display Driver IC has a feature that tunes the backlight, bringing out optimum images even in bright sunlight and without especially high demands on the battery.

When the device is used indoors, power consumption can be cut by 30%, says Samsung. The intelligent mobile DDI chip will go into mass production by the end of 2006.
