Sony enters binocular market
The DEV-3 and DEV-5 are similar in form and function, each featuring a pair of f/1.8-3.4 lenses, 1080p60 2D and 3D video recording and still capture, and a pair of high-resolution electronic viewfinders (EVFs).
These new models add entirely new levels of flexibility and convenience to viewing, recording and enjoying favourite images and scenes, writes Gadgets Gizmos.
“Now consumers can watch birds, wildlife, sports action and more in steady, sharply-focused close-up views, while capturing their subjects in crisp Full HD,” says Andy Bubala, Sony Electronics' director of the camcorder business.
According to Extreme Tech, Sony's digital binoculars won't be for most people, but they do have some features that make them more than just an overly complex camcorder.
3D video recording is an example, but there are others, like variable zoom, which allows the user to stay zoomed out while locating a target and then quickly zoom in when it's found.
They weigh 2.64 pounds and the battery life could be an issue for all-day bird watchers. Sony says the binoculars will last for up to 3 hours of 2D video recording.
