Sony enters Drone market
Sony is starting a drone subsidiary to serve business customers, a foray into a frontier already crowded with upstarts and technology giants.
Sony said on Wednesday it plans to create a drone company called Aerosense through a joint venture with Tokyo-based start-up ZMP, which specialises in autopilot technology. Aerosense will offer services such as inspecting aged infrastructure and surveying land that is difficult to access.

LG flexible displays
LG has revealed a new $900 million flexible screen plant designed to keep up with exploding demand for new screens.
The screens are expected to be used in everything from smartwatches to TVs, with plans for another plant to build big screen TVs already under way. The new 1.05 trillion won ($900 million) flexible OLED plant is being built in Korea.

Faster Tor
A high-speed anonymous way to browse the Web has been developed by security researchers.
The team, based in Zurich and London, say they have found a way to mask data that does little to slow it down.
Many anonymising systems are slow because data is encrypted many times as it travels. But the new high-speed encryption system, Hornet, could theoretically move data around at speeds up to 93GBps, its creators say.

Skype Translator swears
Skype Translator, Microsoft's real-time voice and text translator tool, has been turning Mandarin into expletive-filled English.
The glitch, which is being blamed on how the Great Firewall routinely interrupts Skype, was spotted by writer Tom Carter who has been using the service to help him speak to people in Mandarin across China while filming... a Skype commercial.

Emoji movie
Sony Pictures Animation is raiding keyboards and smartphones for inspiration for its newest film - the studio behind Hotel Transylvania and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is making a film based on emoji.
In fact, not only is Sony making an emoji movie, but the studio beat out two other companies for the rights to the project, and ultimately signed a "near seven figures" deal to do so.

Maiden bionic eye
A pensioner has become the first person in the world suffering from the most common form of blindness to be fitted with a bionic eye.
Ray Flynn, 80, from Audenshaw, Manchester, developed age-related macular degeneration eight years ago.
As a result of the condition, which affects 500 000 people in the UK, he is unable to make out faces and struggles to watch his beloved Manchester United play on the television.

SoundCloud confirmation
SoundCloud co-founder and CTO, Eric Wahlforss, has officially confirmed rumours revealing the platform will launch its subscription service later this year.
Last month, leaked documents revealed the music distribution platform SoundCloud has plans to join Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify and the others to feature its own multi-tiered subscription service.
