Sony Ericsson has launched an entry-level 3G phone in SA as part of its "3G for everyone" drive.
Unveiling the V600i at a function in Johannesburg last night, sales director for Sony Ericsson Southern Africa Philippe Kubbinga said the handset would be available on entry-level contracts or at a retail price of about R2 500.
The phone features a 1.3MP camera and video and playback capabilities, he added.
The V600i is Bluetooth-enabled for wireless communication and includes an FM-radio receiver, UBS connectivity and 384Kbps Internet connectivity.
Kubbinga also unveiled a Walkman-branded phone, the Sony Ericsson W800. With this handset, Sony Ericsson makes its entry into the mobile music market, allowing users to listen to music, handle phone calls and take pictures and video.
The W800 combines a mobile phone, a Walkman-quality digital music player with up to 30 hours' battery life, and a 2MP camera, he said.
The handset is supplied with stereo headphones and it is compatible with MP3 and AAC music file formats. Storage capacity is 0.5GB.
Kubbinga also announced the arrival of the Sony Ericsson K750 and J300i handsets. The K750 comes equipped with a 2MP camera and contains ample memory to make it simple for users to store and share their images, Kubbinga stated.
The phone features an internal 32MB memory, which can hold nearly 100 full-size pictures, and an external memory slot which accepts up to 2GB of extra memory - enough for more than 6 000 shots. A 64MB memory stick is supplied with the phone.
The J300i is marketed as a fun, affordable phone, which includes a 3D gaming engine and easy downloads of video clips, games and ringtones, at an entry-level price.
The handset also offers fast processing, a high-quality screen, good sound quality and 12MB onboard memory.
