A new all-in-one ID photography system from Sony offers exciting revenue opportunities for street photo stores, retailers and event photographers, as well as addressing the fast-growing market demand for business-to-business ID photography.

Combining easy-to-use operation with superb picture quality, the Sony UPX-DP10 includes everything needed to shoot, view and print high-quality colour passport-sized pictures in minutes.

"Consisting of a 'point-and-shoot' digital camera with built-in LCD viewfinder, plus a camera docking station and compact digital printer, the all-digital system lets customers see their picture on-screen before printing, reducing wastage of print materials and boosting customer satisfaction," says Sony Broadcast & Professional SA product manager Dave Schultz.

"With its Mega pixel CCD sensor assuring crisp colour images, the handheld camera keeps set-up and adjustment to a minimum, while auto exposure and auto/manual white balance adjustment guarantees optimum results under all lighting conditions," he adds.

The auto focus zoom lens makes positioning the subject quick and fuss-free, aided by guidelines for head and chin position on the clear CCD display on the back of the camera. An optical viewfinder is also provided for quick framing of the subject.

"The camera stores 60 compressed JPEG images (typical) in its internal memory that are transferred for printing simply by putting the camera back in its handy docking station that doubles as a battery charger for the camera. Pressing the 'print' button sends images to the compact dye sublimation printer. Prints can be specified in a choice of 1, 2, 4, 6, 9 or 16 identical images per sheet, and the customer can specify a choice of glossy, matte or textured finish for each print."

The whole process from shooting to delivery of the print takes little over two minutes. The cordless camera can also be removed from its docking cradle to allow further shooting while the previous image prints.

"Thanks to its highly affordable hardware pricing and ease of use, the UPX-DP10 makes investment in digital ID photography a more attractive option for professional photographers and retailers than ever before," notes Schultz.
