Sony presents super-thin screen

Sony recently showed off a new display on its Web site that is flexible and only 0.01cm thick, which means a more durable screen, says NotebookReview.com.

The display combines organic thin film transistor technology with organic electroluminescent display technology, and the picture is consistent regardless of the viewing angle.

However, this display is still in the laboratory phase and it is uncertain when this will be available to the consumer.

Notebooks more popular in NZ

Notebook sales in New Zealand have surpassed that of desktop PCs for the second time, says m-net.

This is according to preliminary figures for the first quarter by IDC, an IT market research company. The first time this happened was in the second quarter of 2006.

Notebooks currently account for 50.8% of the market share and the combined sales of the two devices stand at 143 634 units for the first quarter.

Wistron gets Sony orders

Sony has placed an order with Taiwanese firm Wistron for the production of 500 000 notebook PCs in the fourth quarter, says EMSNow.

Sony changed from their previous supplier, ASUSTeK, due to branding issues, and this makes it the first time Wistron has received orders from a Japanese client.

Wistron is also set to produce some Wiis for Nintendo and notebooks for Acer and Dell in the third quarter.
