Sony recalls Cybershot cameras

Sony will recall eight models of its Cybershot digital cameras after finding a defect in the liquid crystal display screen, writes BBC News.

The problem is caused by a glitch with the image sensor, which may mean the screen does not display images correctly, Sony said.

The company would reportedly not say how many cameras were affected. The article adds: "The recall applies to models sold worldwide between September 2003 and January 2005... the electronics giant will repair, for free, only cameras that show signs of the problems."

Plasma TV suppliers - already outnumbered by the rival LCD camp - are expected to lose further ground as LCD TVs encroach on the 40-inch-class market, a plasma stronghold, reports News.Com.

"This Christmas season probably is the last chance for [plasma TV makers] to promote 42-inch models. By this time next year probably there will be no price difference between plasma and LCD TVs," says Credit Suisse analyst Wanli Wang.

It is costly, and technologically difficult, notes the article, for plasma makers to give a full high-definition function to models with a screen size of less than 50 inches. LCD TV makers are aggressively promoting full high-definition models in that segment although prices are slightly higher.

A student has developed a technique, named "rainbow technology", where data can be stored on ordinary paper, writes ArabNews.

Sainul Abideen, who has just finished his MCA at Muslim Educational Society Engineering College, in Kuttipuram, has simultaneously developed a scanning drive in order to inter-operate with conventional computer hardware.

In a demo at his college laboratory, Sainul showed how text typed on 432 pages of foolscap paper could be stored in a four-square-inch paper. During the demonstration, a 45-second video clip was also stored on the paper.
