Sony to outsource LCD making

Sony is expected to its high-end LCD TVs to Taiwan-based makers, writes DigiTimes.

The process will see Foxconn Electronics producing frameless ultra-thin models while Wistron is expected to produce the Google TV for Sony. Foxconn declined to comment regarding its clients or orders.

Sony has been adjusting its business for LCD TVs, actively developing emerging markets and increasing its outsourcing ratio. Sony's LCD TV outsourced orders are expected to reach 70% to 80% of its total shipments in 2011, of which its Taiwan-based manufacture partner Foxconn is expected to receive orders of 15 to 18 million units, exceeding its fellow Taiwan-based competitor Wistron.

Hungary cautious about outsourcing

While IT outsourcing is getting more and more important globally, Hungarian entrepreneurs are still cautious about outsourcing their process, says Budapest Business Journal.

Its main reason might be the lack of understanding on both the supply and the demand side, a recent joint survey of BellResearch and Invitel revealed. The research found that most entrepreneurs and IT managers do not have the necessary amount of information on the matter and, therefore, are aversive.

“There are deficiencies on both sides: the companies do not have a clear definition of outsourcing while suppliers lack the ability to explain that,” Mih'aly Sug'ar of BellResearch says.

Faculty shortages hit Indian institutes

Elite institutes of higher across India are facing faculty shortage and, as an effort to bridge this deficit, a committee comprising IIM directors and chairmen has suggested hiring practising managers and outstanding research scholars, reports The Economic Times, reveals Silicon India.

The faculty crunch is more in practice-oriented study areas such as finance, organisation behaviour, rather than in disciplines like economics, statistics and sociology. Earlier this year, there were as many as 90 vacancies in the seven older IIMs, says the report.

A committee has suggested that IIMs hire 'practice-oriented' faculty. This would mean that IIMs will not insist on PhDs for their faculty. Practising managers could be taken on as visiting faculty.
