Sony's PlayStation Vita gets Netflix

Netflix, which provides streaming TV as well as a movie service, with this move is bringing its services to another gaming device.

Sony revealed this information at the Consumer Electronics Show.

CNET says the handheld gaming console will launch with a number of social networking apps. This includes a location-based app called Near that will show what other Vita owners are playing nearby, and what titles are most popular in that area.

With Near, consumers will be able to gift game-related features to other users. Meanwhile, LiveArea is an interactive interface that gives consumers access to the PlayStation Network, so they can get the latest information on games.

The Vita features an OLED touch-screen, a rear touch-pad, two analogue joysticks, an advanced processor and graphics unit, as well as GPS and dual cameras, PC World notes.

The Vita is positioned to take on Nintendo's 3DS, though it might be at a slight disadvantage launching after the holidays in the US.
