SourceCom announces Compaq StorageWorks partnership

Johannesburg, 02 Jun 2000

SourceCom, one of the country's largest system integrators and IT providers, has achieved Compaq StorageWorks accreditation, one of the first company in South Africa to do so.

This allows SourceCom to supply and its clients with Compaq's range of StorageWorks enterprise storage solutions, and architect storage solutions based on StorageWorks technology.

SourceCom CEO Sandra Connolly says: "we've long recognised storage as a key component of our growth , maintained at 200% year-on-year since 1997.

"This includes accreditation with industry partners in their specialist programs that enables our engineers to skill up staff for large projects in the public and corporate sectors," says Connolly. "StorageWorks accreditation was especially important as part of our long-standing relationship with Compaq as a channel partner."

SourceCom has won Compaq's Premier Partner of the Year award each year since becoming a Premier Partner four years ago.

"The explosive growth of the Internet has spawned a mass market for high-volume storage devices," adds Connolly. "Where this was once the domain of larger, expensive mainframes systems, today the technology is seen more in the PC network space.

"Compaq was ranked number one for network storage in a recent survey of leading Fortune 1000 companies as the vendor most important to storage networks. This confirms its ability to deliver quality product to markets where data has to be stored quickly, securely and cost-effectively."

Qualifying for StorageWorks involves an intense training course in Germany, topped by a strict accreditation exam for the qualifying engineer. SourceCom's qualification assessment ranked among the top three in the world.

"StorageWorks accreditation gives weight to our empowerment training programme, with staff from previously disadvantaged communities benefiting most from exposure to its application in various projects," says Connolly.

"Already we are busy implementing a StorageWorks solution for some of our larger clients, details of which will be made public in the near future."
