Spanish develop RFID alert system

A team of Spanish researchers has developed a system that reminds elderly people and those with special needs when they forget everyday tasks, says E-Health Europe.

The system, designed by researchers at the University of Granada in Southern Spain, recognises the everyday actions of the user by using radio frequency identification (RFID) labels.

The researchers have designed a simulation of a house with sensors embedded in the rooms to recognise the behaviour of its occupants.

Asia-Pacific airlines look to RFID

Frost & Sullivan have released a report revealing Asia-Pacific aviation companies are considering RFID to raise efficiency levels in an effort to stay airborne in the face of a major economic downturn, states RFID News.

According to Frost & Sullivan, more than 20 Asia-Pacific airlines are filing for bankruptcy. The industry lost more than 180 000 jobs and $5.8billion in 2008 alone and is anticipated to lose another $2.5 billion in 2009.

A recent report from Frost & Sullivan on the Asia-Pacific RFID market found the market earned revenues of $27.3 million in 2008 and estimates this to reach $188.3 million in 2015.

RFID tracking kit assists hospitals

Daily RFID has released a RFID kit for patient tracking solutions in hospitals, reports PR-USA.net.

The RFID development kit combines wristbands, a handheld reader DL8033, a desktop reader to enable hospital staffs to collect patients' information via the wristbands in real-time.

The RFID patient tracking kit simplifies complicated procedures and improves the efficiency in hospital.
