'Speed fiend' network printing solutions from Square One

Johannesburg, 10 Aug 2001

With speed, reliability and capacity identified by an IDC survey as the major influences on the purchase of new network laser printers, IT-based solutions provider Square One Solutions Group has launched two real "speed fiend" laser printers from Xerox, the Docuprint N4525 black-and-white printer and the fastest-ever office colour printer, the 21-page-per-minute (ppm) Phaser 2135.

The Docuprint N4525 is intended for the tough world of high volume networks. With an industry-leading speed of 45ppm combined with 1200dpi image quality, it sets new benchmarks for high-speed network printing, while the Phaser 2135 colour laser LED printer makes the prospect of universal office colour printing a reality, closing the gap between black-and-white and colour printing speed and further enhancing productivity with a monthly duty cycle of 83 000 pages.

Steve Berryman, CEO sales and marketing of local Xerox distributor Square One Solutions Group Limited, says the printers give the market what it has been calling for - easy installation and management, powerful tools for added value, the ability to audit usage and productivity as well as conduct remote management by Internet and e-mail.

"Both also meet the market's top priorities for improvements in terms of speed, print quality, and cost, not only of the unit itself but also as far as consumables and maintenance are concerned."

The N4525 puts out the first page in just four seconds to match the pace and needs of the busiest workgroup. It has a powerful 233MHz processor that allows it to quickly deliver complex jobs with graphics, photographs and charts. Advanced graphics features include edge-to-edge printing and booklet printing for the production of newsletters and brochures with a truly professional look and feel. With 1200dpi image quality and the Xerox "quad dot" half-toning technology text delivery is razor-sharp and images are photo quality.

Flexibility is a keyword with the N4525. It works in all environments, including Windows NT, Novell, Mac OS, UNIX and OS/2 and Adobe Postscript 3 and PCL5e, PCL6 emulations are standard. The hard disk is able to store fonts, forms and macros, gives secure- and proof-print features and guarantees uninterrupted printing and collation of large multi-set jobs. An automatic duplex module - fitted to all of the range except the base model -- gives exceptionally fast two-sided printing and there are extensive paper handling/finishing options.

The super-quick Xerox Phaser 2135 delivers excellent full colour image quality and is nearly four times faster than competitive colour laser printers and is the first truly 'fast' office colour printer. With 1200dpi standard resolution and a black-and-white speed of 26ppm, the printer is designed to replace the need that most workgroups or departments have for separate colour and monochrome printers.

Equipped with a 500MHz Intel processor that delivers a first page out time of just 17 seconds for colour, the Phaser 2135 is capable of meeting the most diverse printing requirements of any office workgroup. It is highly flexible as far as media is concerned, handling paper sizes from A6 to oversized A3 at weights of up to 203gsm.

The input paper capacity of 2 850 sheets and booklet printing capability are geared to the in-house production of lengthy documents, proposals and marketing materials. Automatic two-sided printing is available as standard with high configurations of the model and as an option on the base range.

"Xerox has made a strong commitment to develop printers that are easy to use," says Berryman. "In line with this, the Phaser 2135 has CentreWare DP printer management software that includes an embedded Web server to allow remote printer management via the Internet. It also has Auto Install for easy networking set-up and automatic alerts to printing obstacles such as low toner."

In fast-paced work environments the Phaser 2135 offers increased reliability and lower maintenance costs over traditional four-pass lasers. It features 10/100 Base T Ethernet standard and 128MB of standard memory, expandable to a maximum of 512MB.

The Phaser 2135 offers high capacity paper trays and has the ability to handle an extensive range of media sizes and weights from 60-203gsm, including labels, cardstock, transparencies and envelopes in sizes from A6 to A3+.

Other new Xerox printers launched recently by Square One include the DocuColor 2006 printer/copier, which affords exceptional colour, versatility and effortless operation to workgroups whose activities are graphics and colour intensive; and the Xerox Tektronix Phaser 860 solid ink colour printer that offers exceptional quality and performance.
