Spescom CEO steps down

Johannesburg, 10 Jul 2007

Spescom founder and CEO Tony Farah has stepped down from the top spot after 30 years with the company.

In an announcement to shareholders, the company says its CFO Jene Palmer has been appointed CEO with immediate effect.

In additional board moves, Spescom chairman Jim Myers has stepped down and Mutle Mogase has been appointed as non-executive chairman of the board. This is in keeping with its transformation plans, says the company.

Spescom says both Farah and Myers will remain with the company in the capacity of executive director and non-executive director respectively, until the conclusion of its current financial year, ending 30 September.

Farah says his departure has been planned over a period of 18 months, during which time he has been mentoring Palmer to step into the role.

"Palmer has been with Spescom for over 11 years and has been an executive director of the company since 2003. During that time she has proven herself to be an exceptional asset. She is intimately familiar with every aspect of Spescom's business and has been involved in the formation of our strategic planning over the years."

He adds: "I remain a significant shareholder in Spescom and have the utmost confidence in the management team I leave behind."

Palmer says her vision for the company is to capitalise on opportunities arising from the convergence of technologies.

"Spescom is well positioned to deliver performance and shareholder value in the coming years. This can be attributed to the company's knowledge and understanding of world technology markets and needs. As a result of this, our market profile has never been better," says Palmer.
