Spescom releases new generation of eB software platform

Johannesburg, 20 Apr 2005

Spescom Software Inc, the US operation of technology innovator, Spescom, has announced the release of a new version of its next-generation enterprise information management software platform, eB Version 14.

eB Version 14 supports the increasingly important market requirement of the information technology industry known as service-oriented architectures (SOAs). This architecture enables the effective communication and sharing of data between disparate computer systems.

The new release expands the already extensive enterprise content and configuration management functionality of the current eB platform using the latest Microsoft .NET framework to provide platform-independent connectivity and interoperability and add critical Web service and XML standards. These new standards enable both new and existing applications and systems to powerfully connect with software and services across many platforms and programming languages.

According to Spescom Software CEO, Carl Mostert, the new release of the eB software signifies a major milestone and forms the platform on which Spescom will base all future applications and solutions for the global multibillion-dollar information management markets that the company addresses.

"Spescom is taking the lead in offering an integrated, feature-rich XML Web service-enabled enterprise content and configuration management platform that meets the needs of next-generation applications and provides new levels of functional connectivity," says Mostert.

"As a result, businesses will be able to develop content-rich applications that deliver information when and where it is needed to empower business partners, suppliers and employees to make better decisions, faster."

Mostert notes that the new version provides existing customers with valuable capabilities for mission-critical data management applications across their enterprises.

According to Janice Hoerber, IT manager, AmerenUE, an early adopter of the 14 platform, AmerenUE is planning to make extensive use of the enhanced capabilities and architecture.

"eB forms one of the core technologies on which we will be deploying a range of applications for managing the configuration and all associated documents related to our Callaway nuclear power plant. We believe that eB will enable us to streamline our business processes by consolidating and integrating multiple applications in a common environment. This will result in improved operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance," says Hoerber.

Mostert concludes that eB Version 14.3 will be generally available from July 2005.
