Spescom wins $1.8m contract from UK's Network Rail

Johannesburg, 12 May 2004

The US operation of ICT multinational, Spescom Limited, Spescom Software Inc, today announced the purchase of an enterprise licence for Spescom's eB configuration management platform, valued in excess of $1.8 million.

Network Rail, the UK's rail management company, intends to deploy eB throughout its operations, as the company's corporate standard for configuration management.

"This important new contract from Network Rail is the largest software contract to date for eB and is a great endorsement of our technology," comments Carl Mostert, CEO, Spescom Software Inc.

"It follows an extensive evaluation process and is based on the significant ROI that Network Rail has achieved using eB on the West Coast project. This latest deal brings the monetary total for business we have received from Network Rail over the past few years to $6 million. Moreover, we anticipate further contracts for greater deployment of eB by Network Rail on an array of projects," says Mostert.

The contract follows the successful deployment of eB, over an 18-month period, on Network Rail's West Coast Route Modernisation programme - a $15 billion project aimed at upgrading the entire railway infrastructure between London and Glasgow.

eB provides the platform for the storage of information, plus all assets, associated documents and records, relating to the West Coast railway line. It also controls all changes as the rail infrastructure is upgraded. This complex task entails keeping track of the status of approximately one million assets and over four million associated documents and records in a safety critical environment characterised by extensive and continuous change.

Mostert says the Network Rail order is the third $1 million contract to be secured by Spescom Software in the past few months.

"It places us in a good position to meet our financial growth and profitability objectives for the year," concludes Mostert.
