Spescom wins $750 000 deal

Johannesburg, 13 Oct 2005

Spescom Software Inc, has been awarded a contract worth approximately $750 000 by leading US east coast power utility, Constellation Energy.

Spescom Software Inc, the US-based operation of the multinational Spescom group, will supply and implement the Corrective Action application based on the eB platform throughout Constellation's nuclear fleet.

Spescom Software CEO, Keith Stentiford, says the eB Corrective Action application will be used by plant personnel to capture events, observations, deviations, problem reports, non-conformances, self-assessments, operational experience, and change requests that are identified on the plant.

"These may relate to the plant systems, structures and components as well as to procedures, persons, processes, documents, records, etc, used to operate and maintain the plant. The eB Corrective Action application will record, track, escalate and resolve these events ensuring complete visibility of the status of each event until it is successfully closed while maintaining full records of all actions related to the event. It forms a core 24/7 information management system required to operate a complex plant," says Stentiford.

"The decision to deploy eB throughout the enterprise shows the confidence Constellation has in using eB in mission-critical applications and further strengthens Spescom's position as a leading player in the nuclear industry.

"Spescom is well positioned to capitalise on the significant spending that is anticipated to occur over the next few years as a result of the recent signing of the 2005 Energy Bill by President George Bush and the resurgence of interest in nuclear power to solve the country's growing energy needs," concludes Stentiford.
