The service, which until now could only be accessed by Web users in the UK, Sweden, Finland, France, Norway, the Netherlands and Spain, has been rumoured to be debuting in the US for some time.

In March this year, CEO Daniel Elk revealed Spotify had around £100 million in funding to help break into the US.

"The award-winning music service that's taken Europe by storm will soon be landing on US shores," Spotify said on its Web site.

According to Tech Shout, Spotify will face many competitors in the US such as Apple iTunes, Sony Music Unlimited, and Pandora. Spotify can be accessed through Windows, Mac OSX, iOS, Android, Windows mobile and Symbian. Users can share, purchase and can also read the artist's bio.

The service in available in UK at £4.99 unlimited and £9.99 for premium subscription. A free version is also available in the same region with in-app advertising. Users in the US can sign up for an invite to be among the first who experience this free service. There's no confirmed date yet for the US debut though.
