iAnywhere Solutions, the mobile and wireless subsidiary of Sybase, has announced the local beta availability of SQL Anywhere Studio 8.0 - the new version of the data management and enterprise synchronisation technology that enables e-business anywhere.
With major performance, security and developer enhancements, the new version opens mobile and wireless database technology to a broad market, enabling large-scale deployments and making it safe and easy for businesses to deploy mobile solutions.
"With over 6 million deployed seats, SQL Anywhere Studio is the platform of choice for mobile and wireless enterprise information solutions," says iAnywhere SA channel manager Deon Engelbrecht.
"Version 8.0 extends this lead with significant performance enhancements, optimising SQL Anywhere Studio for larger deployments. It also offers true end-to-end security - meeting the needs of our customers in privacy-conscious industries such as healthcare and financial services. In addition, Version 8.0 includes several developer enhancements requested by our customers."
SQL Anywhere Studio 8.0 is a comprehensive package that provides data management and enterprise synchronisation to enable the rapid development and deployment of distributed e-business solutions.
Optimised for workgroups, laptops, handheld devices, intelligent appliances and embedded applications, SQL Anywhere Studio extends the reach of a company's e-business to anywhere that business transactions occur.
New benefits of version 8.0 include enhanced performance and scalability, further optimising the product for use as an embedded database and in larger workgroup and mobile deployments. Improved query processing and optimisation can make many complex queries up to six times faster. Also included is the new Patricia Trie index type for efficient large key indexing and bitmap table page lists that enable faster table scans.
Version 8.0 offers enhanced enterprise synchronisation, extending enterprise information to mobile and wireless devices more efficiently. The introduction of priority synchronisation enables control over which data is synchronised first, maximising available wireless coverage. Use of Java synchronisation logic increases flexibility, easing integration of new backend systems.
Fortified security provides end-to-end security from the enterprise to the local device. Enhanced server-side encryption protects communications between the local device and enterprise system. Strong local data encryption and authentication requirements protect information even if the device is lost.
Advanced usability simplifies and speeds up the development process for developers at all levels.
Automatically generated script samples cut the time to market for new applications. Sophisticated administration and troubleshooting tools give developers more control.
"SQL Anywhere Studio has always had excellent out-of-the-box performance," says Engelbrecht. "With security of mobile computing being such a relevant topic, iAnywhere Solutions has added new security features to ensure that corporate information is always safe - even if the device is lost."
