Square One expects business surge as printer prices drop

Johannesburg, 28 May 2003

Xerox distributor Square One Solutions Group is bracing itself for a surge in business as prices of the new range of Xerox solid ink and laser colour and monochrome office printers drop by up to 20% - a move only partially attributable to the recent strengthening of the rand against the US dollar.

"We're expecting a lot of activity in the marketplace with the entire new range of office printers being more affordable," said Hester Pescivolo, National Product Manager: Channels at JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group.

"The new prices announced by Xerox are very competitive and encouraging for the reseller market as well as businesses planning and budgeting for new or replacement office equipment. Any increase in the number of printers in the field will also lead to improvements in consumables and service revenues. The price drop is good news for everyone involved."

Pescivolo added that affordability had always been an issue for first time buyers and for businesses requiring replacement equipment. The need for new printers was invariably subject to comparison against the costs of maintaining existing units and making do with aging technology.
