State of Louisiana chooses BES once again

Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2001

Business Edge Systems (BES) has been awarded a contract by Chicago-based RedMane Technology LLC to assist with enhancing an existing Support Enforcement system for the State of Louisiana. Thanks to the recent successful completion of the MEDS project, Business Edge Systems will, again, play a key systems development role in a multinational project. A similar remote development model will be used for this second joint project.

The existing system locates parents who are unwilling to assist in the financial maintenance of their children and allows the State of Louisiana to implement procedures to force these parents to comply with legislation. In order to do this, the system interfaces with a large number of other state and federal systems including Internal Revenue, the Food Stamp Programme, the Department of Employment and Training, Department of Labour, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the like. Revised and updated Federal certification requirements stipulate that the Support Enforcement system`s functionality be upgraded to comply.

A multinational design team will spend two months in Baton Rouge, Louisiana conducting the requirements and design phases with State personnel. The on-site team will be supported by designers based in the three remote development centres - Chicago, Minneapolis and Johannesburg - where the system will be constructed. Business Edge designers will join the Baton Rouge-based team for the initial phase.

Tony Lakier, RedMane President says the fact that they have worked with BES on remote projects in the past means BES understands his company`s methodology.

"Business Edge have a proven capability in the remote execution of large, complex projects. This was demonstrated in their substantial role on the MEDS System for the State of Louisiana. We are delighted to have them as a partner on this assignment

The fact that BES has remote development capabilities allows international companies like RedMane to include top IT development skills on their projects at reasonable costs says Karen Malkin, Account Director at BES. "Systems development from multiple remote locations demands the highest standard of systems development and project management skills."

The BES design team will be on-site until the end of March. Construction will be done by a team of 10 people operating from BES` offices in Johannesburg. The enhanced system is scheduled for implementation in October this year.
