Stay in touch with 12MP camera phone

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a touch-screen phone geared towards a richer multimedia experience and focused on unlimited entertainment.

The 12MP camera phone was introduced under a concept name - Idou. The company says the phone will be marketed to consumers under a different name when made available in the second quarter of the year.

Idou, the company says, encapsulates the future of mobile entertainment.

However, many people doubt there is a need for such a high-spec camera to be incorporated in a phone. Generally, industry insiders believe a dedicated camera device is still the best option when it comes to taking photographs, even though consumers might want a converged device.

Sony Ericsson says apart from the 12MP camera, the Idou phone also incorporates a Xenon flash.

Users can tap directly into their favourite videos and tracks with the full-touch media menu, and watch movies, TV series and video clips in 16:9 widescreen format.

"Based on what will become the Symbian Foundation operating system, thousands of applications are available online, letting you install new applications and download exciting content from PlayNow to make the Idou truly yours," comments Sony Ericsson president, Dick Komiyama.
