StorageTek has announced its REELbackup software for the new StorageTek 9840 tape drive. REELbackup software capitalises on the 9840 tape drive to provide customers with higher performance and faster data access than traditional backup and recovery solutions.
In addition, REELbackup interleaves Unix and Windows NT data simultaneously onto the 9840 cartridge.
REELbackup software delivers the performance and scalability required by large Unix and NT data centre implementations and, when coupled with the 9840 tape drive, it provides customers with a complete, open systems solution from a single vendor, says Pieter Engelbrecht, sales support manager at local StorageTek distributor CMS.
"The 9840 tape drive puts to rest any questions about tape performance," notes Engelbrecht.
REELbackup`s multiplexing feature leverages the speed of the 9840, rated as one of the fastest tape drives on the market. The software simultaneously interleaves multiple streams of backup data at almost double the rate possible on DLT drives. The 9840 tape drive also shortens backup windows due to its 20GB capacity and minimises data restore time with its rapid data access.
REELbackup software multiplexes or interleaves multiple streams of Unix and NT data from disk to tape simultaneously, optimising the 9840 tape drive`s speed and performance in the backup and restore process. Also, REELbackup software`s multiple, simultaneous backups allow many disk and 9840 tape drives to be accessed in parallel, improving backup and restore performance.
The combination of REELbackup software and the 9840 tape drive eliminates slow data access rates and inadequate capacities, opening the gate for a wide range of emerging data-intensive applications. In addition, the 9840 tape drive and REELbackup solution support either direct-attached or network-attached tape devices, allowing businesses to incorporate the solution with existing equipment and forthcoming storage area networking technologies.
