Storgate Africa launches `ISCount madness`

Johannesburg, 07 Apr 1999

In a unique programme that could have far-reaching benefits for the entire South African installed base of aging PCs, Storgate Africa has teamed up with Seagate Technologies to offer a market-shattering trade-up offer for hard disk drives.

Limited initially to a three-month window of opportunity, Storgate Africa has announced the "Trade up to Seagate" programme to its reseller customers throughout the country.

Storgate Africa managing director Peter Blaauw explains: "With international backing from Seagate, all Storgate resellers are invited to trade in used disk drives, regardless of the brand, against their next purchase of a Seagate drive from Storgate.

"The rebate on the trade in, which is passed as a discount on the cost of the new Seagate drive, ranges from a minimum of R50 for an entry-level IDE drive to a massive R400 on the price of a new high-end SCSI drive," he says.

Subject to some specific terms and conditions governing the condition and the way the packaging and handling of the trade-in drives are managed, the offer represents one of the largest discounts ever on disk drives through authorised distribution channels in South Africa.

"In a market generally characterised as being commodity based and extremely price sensitive, the trade-in values represent a massive saving," says Blaauw.

The offer opened on 1 April and runs through to 30 June.

Blaauw says the trade-up offer coincides with issues such as the Year 2000 crisis and a period where all PC users are faced with having to purchase new, compliant systems or implement upgrades.

"Besides the opportunity the trade up offer presents in this field, resellers can also aggressively address the general upgrade market to bring installed PCs throughout their customer base into line with storage capacity points that over the past year have moved from 1.2 Gbyte to 4 Gbytes - and at a significantly lower cost," he says.

The offer is strictly limited to the reseller channel in South Africa. For further information resellers should contact Storgate Africa on telephone (011) 234-0400 or on e-mail at trade.up@storgate.co.za
