Strate and Comparex Africa's division has the IT outsourcing contract for Strate, the electronic settlement service for JSE-listed shares.

Comparex Africa is providing Strate with an outsource solution comprising all the required IT infrastructure and related functions to support its mission-critical business functions, it says, including the processing and infrastructures, 24 hour-computer operations, and systems management.

In July this year, Strate migrated its principal computer functionality from the Reserve Bank's mainframe to the Comparex Africa outsourcing facility at Exchange Square in Sandton, where the JSE is based.

"The growth of STRATE encouraged a speedy migration to the new mainframe as we had started focusing increasingly on capacity planning. Improved efficiency was realised immediately after the move," says Shah Ebrahim, head of IT at Strate.

Strate and Comparex have now entered into a formal four-year contract, renewable for three years. Strate will retain the administration of security and database management and manage the changes to Strate's SAFIRES application.
