Stratus first to integrate dual core with fault-tolerant technology

Transaction-hungry ftServer 5700 system top performer in Windows server line
Maynard, Massachusetts, 16 Feb 2006

Stratus Technologies, Inc today announced the ftServer W Series 5700 system, the industry's first fault-tolerant server to use Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor technology.

By providing users with eight processing execution cores, the new two-way server delivers exceptional transaction throughput for enterprise business processing and multi-tasking applications in a compact, rack-optimised and cost-effective package.

The new system tops Stratus' current-generation server line with approximately 25% higher performance than the next closest model. Supporting the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition operating system, the ftServer 5700 system is fully redundant and delivers better than 99.999% uptime reliability.

The industry-standard hardware is augmented by Stratus-engineered chipsets and the company's patented Continuous Processing technology to bring premier continuous availability to decentralised mission-critical computing.

"Multi-core technology launches a new era of processor performance and flexibility," said Greg Enriquez, Stratus senior vice-president, Worldwide Field Operations. "By marrying that with the industry gold standard of five-nines reliability - a measure surpassed by all Stratus server lines - we continue to deliver the best solution for critical business processes and applications requiring continuous availability."

The ftServer 5700 system with Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processors will be generally available at the end of January. The server is available with the Virtual Technician module (VTM), a fault-tolerant remote access controller that, in turn, connects to the fully fault-tolerant Stratus ActiveService Network to help ensure the highest reliability possible. This new server also joins ftServer 4000 Series models in supporting Stratus Active Upgrade technology, which will begin shipping this quarter, for online patching, hot fixes, and upgrades.
