Shocked Technology Solutions (STS) celebrated its fifth year in business at the end of 2004.
Started in 1999 during the heyday of IT optimism, the company endured the turbulent times of the dot-com boom and bust. "While companies were shutting down around us, we showed double-digit growth during those difficult times," says MD, Allie Khan. "It's a tribute to our prudent and persistent team coupled with solid values that brought us through.
"Since our first customers were two of the largest SA corporates, our company ethos was focus, excellence, delivery and innovation. To this day we haven't sacrificed these values."
Originally starting out as an e-business development shop, STS reorganised itself early on into an application service provider with competencies around the SAP and Microsoft platforms.
As a fully black owned company with a strong track record of delivery, STS is positioned to capitalise on ICT procurement reform in the South African economy.
"Back in 1999, BEE was something we didn't even bother to mention as clients were more sceptical when we did. There have been some changes though, but not nearly enough to make a significant difference to the barriers that even a competent player like STS faces. We are hopeful that the ICT charter can accelerate this process," adds Khan.
Today STS has an enviable track record of projects with the depth and breadth of clientele centred on two technology platforms, namely Microsoft and SAP.
Asked about the future, Khan responds: "ICT companies in Africa need to create their own intellectual property (IP) to be recognised in the global context. Over and above our service offerings, STS is hard at work to create African IP."
