Sub-Saharan journalists coached by Torque-IT

Journalists from key technology centres of Sub-Saharan Africa attended the Pan African Media Technology Conference recently, where one of the highlights was a hands-on training session on IT practical skills given at Torque-IT. Journalists from Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana, were in South Africa on an educational mission to with individuals, companies and media who have an interest in the future of technology in Africa.

Torque-IT exemplified their mission statement recently during the conference by providing the international technology community with the career training, guidance, support and information they need to excel in an ever-changing industry, thus contributing to workforce development and addressing the and skills gap.

These journalists found the session at Torque-IT very rewarding:" the best day of the Conference" said Javed Bolah of the News on Sunday in Mauritius. "I wish I had more time at Torque-IT" says Gideon Nkala of The Reporter in Botswana who found the training invaluable.

In his keynote opening address at the Conference, Torque-IT`s Managing Director, Gary Chalmers highlighted the jargon which still befuddles the IT industry. He stressed to the journalists their important role in de-mystifying the whole IT arena and to emphasise the criticality of training in their countries in order to bridge the skills gap in Africa.

Torque-IT is itself a technical training and career guidance organization that focuses specifically on the high-end technical computer training market. Their aim is to provide students with a career path, and then assist them to attain their goals by being the leading provider of training to IT professionals and young people.

It is good to know that Africa is catching up with the rest of the IT global village, and in some instances has overtaken first world countries by the use of leapfrogging old technology.

By attending the Pan African Media Technology Conference, the journalists present showed their commitment to implementing change and progress in their continent.
